History of Grama Panchayat
Historically a part of the Kollam district, Nooranad derived its name from the 'Nooranad Sub-district,' a revenue division established in 1078 M.E. (Kollam Era) by integrating one hundred (Nooru) revenue regions (Karas). Home to one of the earliest Anchal offices (post offices) and sub-registrar offices, this historically significant region became a part of the Mavelikara taluk in Alappuzha district when the latter was formed on August 17, 1957. The area is famously known as 'Padanilam' (battlefield) because it served as a military outpost for the King of Kayamkulam and was the site of fierce territorial feuds among local clans for ownership of the Padanilam Parabrahma Temple, which originated as a simple stone shrine under a banyan tree.
